ARTIST STATEMENT MARSHALL LEWIS,
"As an architect and painter, my art takes on an architectural order or imagery to create 'architectural illusions.'
The Architect is attuned to seeing form, texture and composition within the urban landscape.
The Artist can combine these elements of form and texture with rich colors and create and rearrange them into a concept of fantasy and a search for poetic possibilities.
The possibility to fuse art and architecture within a single art form in an abstracted and organic way is a formidable challenge. Combining these two disciplines in very abstract terms with the painted surface is an exciting concept for me as the artist."
ABOUT THE ARTWORK
These paintings are oils on canvas and oils on wood panels with the wood grain exposed in areas to become part of the composition. Sculptural elements of mixed media protrude in low relief to form a bond between painting and sculpture.
ABOUT THE ARTIST AS ARCHITECT
Mr. Lewis' career as an architect is paralleled by a career as a painter and consequently his designs tend to take an artistic approach rather than a purely technical one. This is very evident in his work and filters down to the smallest details. His work is mostly contemporary in design, highly unique and sculptural. |
